Playoffs

Holy hell what a game that was…

I had about 6 heart attacks watching the Isles and Rangers last night. Ricky stood on his head, then stood on his skates, and then back on his head again, that’s how good he was. Let’s just hope that the Isles will have a little more jump when they head to the Coliseum on Thursday for the back end of the home-and-home because they were damn lucky to escape with one point.

Onto things at hand for the Bridgeport Sound Tigers, the Albany River Rats have moved into a tie for 4th in the East Division, which is very bad news for the Tigers. They’ve lost 5 straight and now have to face a three-in-three after playing 3 games in 2 weeks, starting against the WBS Penguins. Here are the updated standings:

East Division GP W L OTL SOL PTS

Hershey Bears 61 37 13 6 5 85
Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins 59 38 15 2 4 82
Albany River Rats 59 28 26 3 2 61

Yes, you read that right; I’m in Hershey, PA right now.  Got myself a stringer job covering the Binghamton Senators for the Binghamton Press & Sun Bulletin.  This is my first paying gig, so I’m actually a little nervous going into tonight’s game.  All the luck will be much appreciated!

Onto the B-Port news, Clear Day Rosters were announced yesterday, and here’s Bridgeport’s, courtesy of Michael Fornabaio’s blog (http://soundinoff.blogspot.com/):

Goalies – Wade Dubielewicz, Billy Thompson

Defensemen (8)– Rick Berry, Chris Campoli, Drew Fata, Jamie Fraser, Bruno Gervais, Tomas Malec, Allan Rourke, Mark Wotton

Forwards (12) – Eric Boguniecki, Jeremy Colliton, Blake Comeau, Jamie Johnson, Ken Magowan, Masi Marjamaki, Frans Nielsen, Petteri Nokelainen, Brandon Nolan, Jason Pitton, Steve Regier, Jeff Tambellini

In residence – Gregg Johnson, F; Nick Martens, D; Dustin VanBallegooie, D; Stephen Wood, D… and Matt Reid, F, who is apparently up from South Carolina.

**Sound Tigers lost another tough one last night to the WBS Penguins 5-3.  That’s their fifth loss in a row, and not the way they wanna be playing going into a playoff race.  It now puts them only 3 points ahead of Albany in the playoff race.  Granted, this is without Comeau, Colliton, Berry, and Fata, but one has to be concerned with the downhill turn the Tigers are taking.

Most likely I’ll be back Monday, as I have some family matters to attend to tomorrow.  Until then, stay classy…

Looks like Robert Nilsson has been assigned to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. The Sound Tigers next game? You guessed it, @ WBS on Friday night. It should definitely be interesting when they come to Harbor Yard on March 9th on the back end of their home-and-home.

Speaking of the home-and-home, what a weird one it is: @ WBS, March 2 and then home on March 9. The AHL has been real screwy with the scheduling this year (just look at the Sound Tigers recent 8 games in 10 nights). Now they’re in the middle of 3 games in 2 weeks.

The Sound Tigers do need the rest though. They’ve looked like the walking-wounded coming out of the 8-in-10:

~Jamie Fraser is out for the next week or two with a thumb injury.

~Drew Fata is going to serve the last game of a three game suspension on Friday.

~Brandon Nolan is out for the next two-six weeks with a broken rib.

~Jeremy Colliton’s shoulder is acting up on him.

~Blake Comeau is still day-to-day recovering from an ankle injury.

From Michael Fornabaio’s blog (http://soundinoff.blogspot.com/), defenseman Dustin VanBellegooie has signed a PTO from ECHL’s Fresno Falcons to fill in the gap lost by Fraser and Fata.

Also, here’s the latest playoff race in the East division (Top 4 teams in the division qualify for the playoffs)
